Quarry Stevedore

The Southern Stone Company is seeking a Stevedore for the equipment inside of the Quarry located in Jackson, MO. This position requires individuals to operate equipment to transfer and move cargo around ship or dock area. Take initiative to identify safety issues and perform all tasks in a safe manner. This position will report to the Quarry Manager and to the Quarry site in Jackson Missouri. 

Job Responsibilities but not limited to: 

• Operate a variety of construction equipment such as but not limited to a skid steer, excavator and more. 

• Load barges at all docks and correct drafts.

• Take steps to load barges with minimal spillage. 

• Spot and recognize unsafe conditions on vessels and barges. 

• Follow and implement safety policies and procedures of the company. 

• Assist with routine maintenance on the dock. 

• Report any fluids that enter the river. 

• Keep walkways and travel ways clear of lines, tools, and debris. 

• Communicate well with pilot, deckhands, truck drivers, and other vessels in fleet. 

• Change cables and put eyes in cable. 

• Knowledge of product size to assure quality of product going on barge. 

• Recognize barges that may be potential problems while loading. 

• Complete another task as assigned. 

Requirements: 

• Working experience in this role or similar. 

• Must be able to pass a drug test upon hire. 

• Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, or overtime as needed. 

• Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, hot and cold, in a safe and productive manner. 

• Must be able to safety lift up to 50lbs. 

• Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and perform repetitive bending and stooping when required. 

• Good knowledge of river safety. 

• Must be able to pass MSHA training provided upon hire.
